On September 2, 2025, Meta, via its infrastructure arm Edge Network Services, and Safaricom announced a joint $23 million investment in a new subsea cable project named “Daraja,” which will link Oman to Mombasa, Kenya, enhancing regional internet connectivity. The project aims to improve network redundancy and mitigate disruptions in East Africa. Construction is expected to conclude by 2026
