Somalia’s House of the People unanimously approved a revised anti-piracy and hostage prevention law to strengthen maritime security and combat coastal crimes. All 140 MPs voted for the amendments to Law No. 36 of 1975, introducing tougher penalties and provisions for asset recovery. Justice Minister Hassan Mo’allim said the law enhances Somalia’s authority to prosecute maritime crimes and promotes international cooperation. The bill now awaits Upper House and presidential approval.
