Sidama Rally Marks GERD Completion

The Sidama region held a rally in Hawassa on Sept. 23, 2025, to mark the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Residents gathered at Millennium Square under the theme “We Have Succeeded in Unity”. Regional chief administrator Desta Ledamo and senior officials attended. Participants celebrated with songs and cultural programs. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the self-funded GERD on Sept 9, 2025, after 14 years of construction.
